How Auritrack's Bank Connections Work

Handing a budgeting app access to your bank is a reasonable thing to be nervous about. You should know exactly what the app can see, what it can do with that access, and what you are paying for. This page answers those questions for Auritrack, plainly.
If you are deciding whether to connect a bank, or you have connected one and want to understand what happens behind the dashboard, this is for you. If you would rather never connect a bank at all, statement uploads give you the same bookkeeping without a connection, and the comparison of the two is a better place to start.
Where it works
Auritrack connects to banks in the US and Canada through Plaid, and to banks in Nigeria plus selected banks in Ghana, Kenya and South Africa through Mono. Plaid and Mono are the open banking providers that sit between your bank and the app. The supported countries page has the current list. UK and EU banks are not covered.
Auritrack picks the provider by where your bank is, not where you live. If you live in Toronto and keep an account in Lagos, you can connect both, one through each provider, and see them side by side.
Mobile money wallets, such as M-Pesa or MoMo, are not connected. For those, and for every bank outside the list, you upload a PDF, CSV or Excel statement and the AI reads it. That works on every plan.
What it costs
Bank connections are part of the Premium plan, at $20 a month or $200 a year. Each connected account syncs automatically once a week, and that weekly sync is included. You can choose a more frequent schedule for an account, or press "Sync now" when you want fresh numbers, and those extra syncs cost Auricoins, the in-app credits that also pay for other AI features.
If you move to a lower plan, syncing pauses. Your accounts and your transaction history stay where they are.
What Auritrack can see
When you connect, Auritrack receives your account names, balances and transactions: the date, the amount, the currency and the description your bank wrote. Current and savings accounts appear as accounts in Auritrack with their balances. Card purchases come in as expenses. Loan and investment accounts are listed for reference.
What Auritrack cannot see or do
You log in on Plaid's or Mono's screen, not Auritrack's. Your bank password goes to the provider and your bank, and Auritrack never sees or stores it.
The connection is read-only. Auritrack cannot move money, make a transfer, pay a bill or change anything at your bank. It reads, and that is the whole of it. You can remove a connection whenever you like, and syncing for that bank stops.
What happens to your transactions
The AI labels and categorizes each transaction as it comes in.
When money moves between two of your own connected accounts, Auritrack pairs the outgoing and incoming sides and takes them out of your income and spending, so a transfer to savings is not counted as an expense. It does this across currencies too, comparing a naira transfer with the dollar amount that arrived at that day's rate. If a pair is wrong, "Not a transfer" puts both transactions back and the choice is remembered.
If you also upload a statement for a connected bank, or log a purchase in the chat that the bank later sends, Auritrack matches them by amount and date so nothing is counted twice.
After each sync it reads your history for charges that repeat on a steady rhythm. Each likely subscription appears for you to confirm or dismiss, and Auritrack sends a reminder two days before a tracked charge is due.
Every transaction keeps the currency it happened in. Totals are kept per currency, and nothing is silently converted.
The parts a bank cannot see
Cash, a bill split with a friend, money a relative owes you: none of that is in a bank feed. You log those by typing a sentence in the chat, in the app or on @auritrack_bot on Telegram, and they sit alongside everything the bank sends.
Your first step
If you want to see what the AI does with your spending before connecting anything, try the free subscription tracker, then create an account and upload one statement. You can also get the app on Google Play or the App Store.
When you are ready, connect your bank from the web or mobile app on Premium.
